Paphos is a city on the southwestern coast of Cyprus. It is a two-hour drive away from Nicosia and an hour’s drive from Limassol. Paphos International Airport is just a fifteen-minute drive (or shuttle) from the city centre. It is the second largest airport in Cyprus with regular budget-friendly flights to the rest of Europe.
Paphos is home to beautiful beaches. Coral Bay, with its shallow waters and sports facilities, just six kilometres north of the town, is ideal for families. While Lara Bay, known for its turtle conservation, has a tranquil atmosphere. On the coastal road between Paphos and Limassol, you’ll find the rock formation Petra Tou Romiou, the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite. Paphos has honoured Aphrodite with her very own waterpark. The largest in the region, with its choice of slides and rides, it’s the perfect place to take kids.
For exploring even more of your new area’s mythology and history, head to the incredible ruins of the Tombs of the Kings, the Paphos Archaeological Park and the Saint Neophytos Monastery. While the Paphos Castle tells of Cyprus’s history from the Byzantines to the Ottomans to the British.
But Paphos isn’t just historically fascinating. Its harbour teems with sun-kissed locals and holidaymakers, enjoying the choice of waterfront cafes. Plus, Paphos Old Town, with its narrow street, historic buildings, and street art, is a fantastic spot to while away the hours. Find artisan goods in its indoor market, chic boutiques, art galleries and cocktail bars.
While Paphos does not quite have the reputation for partying as Ayia Napa, it still has a fantastic go-to street for partying, Agiou Antoniou Street. Moreover, if you want to be in the heart of the tourism in Paphos (or, indeed, buy a property that benefits from the rental opportunities), Kato Paphos is a hub for hotels, restaurants and bars.
Paphos boasts of hot, dry summers and mild winters. July is the hottest month, enjoying 31°C heat and not a drop of rain. January is the coldest month with an average daily maximum of 17°C and four days of rain. From March, the temperature picks up to 20 degrees. With sea temperatures averaging 23°C, you can go for a dip from June to November.
