It is a rural parish overlooking the village of Povoação, occupying two of the typical "lombas" (Lomba do Loução and Lomba do Alcaide) that radiating from the village extend to the interior of the island. It was a wheat production area, and today the land is almost entirely dedicated to grazing for dairy cattle.
