Archaeological remains found lead us to believe that it was a Lusitanian Castro in the place called Cabeço dos Mouros, where a chapel was built and still exists today. The pilgrimages made to hear mass in that chapel gave birth to the village of Castelo Branco. It is a parish composed of two annexed villages: Quinta da Quebradas and Estevais.
