Description

An old oil mill in the settlement of Maroulas Rethymno was transformed into a main traditional home. From the end of the Venetian domination and throughout the Ottoman domination to this day, this land hosts thousands of olive trees. A quick walk in the village today will find more than twelve venues in which some "factories" operated, that is, the crushing of the olives for the production of olive oil.

This golden age should begin at the beginning of the 19th century and last for about 150 years until the Second World War. One of the old factories - decommissioned for many years - was this property located in the center of the village that is now renovated and turned into a magnificent home. The building develops on three levels that can be reached either with the staircase or with an elevator.

GROUND FLOOR area of ??96,25 m . The main entrance leads to a spacious open plan living room with a fireplace - dining room, kitchen, W.C and an elevator and staircase leading to the floors. FIRST FLOOR area 96,25 m . On the upper floor there is a large bedroom with a fireplace and a bathroom, a smaller bedroom with a bath and a room with a linen box.

SECOND FLOOR area of ?? 28,49 m inside and another 67,76 m outside. On the Top floor there is another bedroom with its own bathroom and the terrace with pergola, barbecue and outdoor Jacuzzi. The house is exceptionally decorated and is for sale fully furnished and equipped. About the area: Maroulas is located 10 kilometers from the town of Rethymnon, in a south direction and at an altitude of about 240 meters above sea level.

The village with the current residential and urban trunk was probably built in the early 13th AD century. The whole village has been declared as a preserved area. The traditional settlement has strongly Venetian and Turkish architectural elements. Most buildings date back to the period of Venetian rule, but it is likely that the area was inhabited perhaps on Minoan period.

The village inhabitants were mainly farmers working in oil production. A quick walk these days at the village will discover more than a dozen places where once worked workshops, crushing the olives to produce olive oil. In about 3km from the village you can get to the beach of Platanias, a well known tourist resort, where all amenities can be found. In Maroulas you can find a mini market and a couple of traditional kafeneio and tavernas.

The exchange rate on the day you make an offer on your property in Greece will not be the same as the rate you pay when you complete on your purchase, as currency markets move constantly. Any large rate movements may take it beyond your price range as the chart above illustrates the fluctuation and how much extra your property could have cost you.

The best way to avoid this significant risk is to plan your budget and currency strategy with an experienced currency specialist. They have been known to save you up to 4% compared to many high street banks, £4,000 for every £100,000, which soon adds up. They will also keep you up to date on market movements, help you set a rate in advance with a product called a Forward Contract - so you know exactly what you will pay for your property in sterling.

This is why we recommend Smart Currency Exchange Ltd. If exchange rate movements continue to be as unpredictable and as significant as they have been in the past then by not using Smart Currency Exchange Ltd your property could cost you £14,864 more.
