Known colloquially as Roúmeli (and Sterea Ellada), central Greece is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. It includes the southern part of mainland Greece, excluding the Peloponnese but encompassing the offshore island of Evvia. Often overlooked by overseas buyers in favour of the islands or Athens, central Greece has much to offer. A massive plus of mainland Greece is its natural beauty, it is home to the largest wetland in all of Greece, the Lagoon of Messolonghi. Nearby, you’ll find the fantastic archaeological site of Delphi – which was thought to be the navel of the world by the ancient Greeks. 

Central Greece enjoys a warm, sunny climate. From May to October, temperatures can reach the 20s. The hottest month is July with an average daily maximum of 32 degrees and very little rain. Meanwhile, the coldest month is January which sees highs of just 11 degrees. 

Although it does depend on where you buy a home in central Greece, Athens International Airport will likely be your go-to airport. It is about three hours from the neighbourhood of Delphi.

To the west of the archaeological site, the town of Delphi is a lively place. Due to its location, it is especially geared towards tourists with a choice of restaurants, shops and hotels.
