Today we are ready for a Vespa outing, the sun has already shown itself in all its splendour since early morning, contrasting with the turquoise sky. Riding along the western Gardesana today is more beautiful than ever, to the left the ancient walls bordering Lake Garda and to the right all the shades of green of the vegetation. I love not going too fast on my motorbike and with my helmet back with goggles because I am also lucky enough to smell the scents which, combined with the landscape, make for a 360° experience. Our tour starts from Monte Gu, as they call it here, we are over 1550 m on Monte Pizzocolo where we can admire the Adamello group, Monte Rosa, the Apennines, Monte Baldo and the ValVestino dam. We stop at the "due aceri" bivouac, where there is a small church dedicated to the fallen of all wars, because from the top we truly have a wonderful view of the enchanted place in which the property we are about to see is set. Back on our bikes, we finally head for Toscolano Maderno which, as I have told you, is located on the western shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Brescia. This small town has ancient roots, even dating back to Roman times, and is known for its natural beauty, with its breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding hills, but also for its rich history and culture. In the past it was also an important centre of paper production in the afternoon walk to the Valle delle Cartiere we will see an interesting paper museum. The sleeping area is independent and bordered by a door beyond which is the bathroom with shower and to the right the master bedroom which overlooks the terrace with pool view and to the left the single bedroom which overlooks the small balcony with lake view. The staircase from the living room leads to a splendid private terrace on the fourth and top floor, structured in such a way as to guarantee total privacy and a special place to spend evenings alone or in company. You thought the surprises were over? Wrong, the flat is completed by a garage and a practical cellar. How? OK let's get the bike and go and see it...you will be as enraptured as I am.

Before visiting the property, a stop in the center of Gonzaga, a small rural town in the Po Valley halfway between Mantua and Reggio Emilia which gave its name to one of the most illustrious Italian families of the Renaissance. There is always something to discover and the cuisine and wine of the area never disappoints. Today I am curious to visit, I really love old country houses and I like to see how they have been restored. My expectations were not disappointed and after walking down the driveway an imposing two-storey clay brick house with petrol green shutters stood out. A paved pedestrian entrance flanked by multicolored hydrangeas leads us to the finely renovated double-leaf wooden door in pleasant contrast with the glass and iron solution of the door which allows natural light to enter the reception. Yes, because on the ground floor a B&B has been cleverly created with welcoming and large rooms from which you can admire the breath-taking view of the plain, equipped with fireplaces and en suite bathrooms and a large kitchen space to indulge in. On the first floor, with access from an internal staircase, we find the master apartment. Three large bedrooms, a large kitchen, the heart of the house in the tradition of rural families and two warm and welcoming living rooms heated by ancient terracotta stoves from the early twentieth century. We take a last flight of stairs and here we are in the attic, another huge space to design and think about. This farm is a perfect combination of ancient and modern, in which the renovated blends with the recovered in a welcoming harmony that makes you immediately feel at home. Around the main farmhouse, forming a square with the well in the centre, there are 3 other buildings, what I call the farmhouse, a two-storey building which could become the annex with 2 or more residential units, the old dovecote and a further building currently used as tool storage and shelter. The possibilities of use are manifold: I would see well a restaurant activity perhaps using the outdoor spaces for weddings and ceremonies in pure roof style, or expand the B&B with other themed or two -room apartments in the household, or the creation of spaces for teaching workshops perhaps with the addition of animals typical of the farm and why not also keep the existing one by dedicating themselves to dog breeding. For those who love the countryside, this property already has everything you could want, the stars in the window, the ladybugs on the tree and the bottle of white wine in the fridge, all it takes is a little imagination to transform it into your place of life and passion.

I had left the Lombardy plain behind with my faithful Moto Guzzi V7 Special of ’71, the roar of the V-twin making its way through the hairpin bends of the Alta Val Seriana. The fresh air of early autumn caressed my face, and the asphalt that wound through the valleys began to be tinged with the warm colors of the woods. I didn't imagine I was heading towards a real wonder, something unexpected. When I finally entered Val di Scalve, in the province of Bergamo, a breathtaking panorama opened up before me: solemn mountains, a clear sky and the rarefied silence of nature in transformation. The valley, under development, was experiencing a new splendor: 5-star resorts, state-of-the-art ski facilities and prestigious villas were redesigning the identity of the place even if nature still reigned supreme. I stopped in front of an extraordinary villa surrounded by a lush garden. The villa on three floors was built entirely in green and red Verrucano Lombardo stone alternating with skill with fine woods which created an elegant and decisive chromatic play and the characteristic slate roof gave the final touch. The exterior was imposing and fascinating, but it is the interior that was a world unto itself. The living area, distributed over three distinct rooms, was designed to experience every nuance of free time, wrapped in elegant Venetian stucco walls still made with the ancient method: a TV area, one dedicated to silence overlooking the valley and one where you can chat in front to the fire of an authentic fireplace, one of the 7 of the villa, which crackles welcomingly. An original Thun tiled stove, of rare beauty, accompanied the passage to the dining room, refined and bright with walnut wainscoting that gave a unique touch to the environment. The separate kitchen, equipped with every comfort, featured an intimate corner for family meals, and the attention to every detail was as evident as the hand-painted tiles depicting playing cards. From the French window you entered the garden, where under a large portico supported by sculpted wooden columns there was a real outdoor kitchen with a barbecue area, pizza oven and a magnificent cedar wood table. On the upper floor, the sleeping area was a masterpiece: all the rooms developed around the gallery overlooking the living room below. On one side the master room, an alcove richly finished with the romantic fireplace and the private bathroom also with its fireplace and on the other the two bathrooms and three bedrooms, each different from the other. The green one with a very rich hand-woven upholstery and custom-made wardrobes, the brown one with the fireplace and the splendid bay window and its panorama, the children's room with the mezzanine above in the attic. Curtains and bedspreads strictly personalized with particular designs and colours, always hand-woven by a master weaver. Each room was something different with fine parquet floors of various essences, marble inlays and coverings, elegant tapestries, every detail had its own history and its own reason. I sat on one of the two lilac armchairs placed on the gallery where a small sitting area had been created. From the two windows overlooking a romantic circular balcony, sunlight filtered through and illuminated the fireplace. I stood there for a few minutes enjoying everything I had seen. But it wasn't over yet. I went down to the ground floor, a place that would be the envy of a 5-star hotel, a heated environment overlooking the greenery of the garden with swimming pool, gym, sauna, bathroom, all enriched by splendid wall paintings that accompany the porphyry mosaic floor, under a shining “starry sky”. A final door led me into the basement, an immense garage, perfect for housing vintage cars and motorbikes. This villa was not just a home. It was a place that enchants, a rare opportunity, a perfectly crafted and preserved pearl, ready to shine again.
