Historically Morzine was a French farming and mining town. The first cable car was constructed in 1934. It was not until 1960 when things started to change. This was when the town clubbed together to send a promising local racer to the Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley in California. He came home clutching the gold medal for downhill. On his homecoming, Morzine's elders gave Vuarnet the task of creating the high-altitude ski station of Avoriaz above it. He was also tasked with developing links with neighbouring resorts on both sides of the Swiss frontier to create the huge Portes du Soleil. Most buyers sign a preliminary contract first, then complete at the notary a few months later. If you’re buying from abroad, you can often complete using a power of attorney arranged through the notary.
